Success Story: Special Olympics

David Sargent was the 2012 Outstanding Athlete of the year for Special Olympics Missouri. In addition to competing in bowling, golf, and basketball with SOMO, David (Davo) has been an Area Office intern for over a year, assisting with weekly tasks such as shredding, filing, equipment loading for events, and spreadsheet updates. He is very generous with his free time, volunteering with multiple organizations around the St. Louis area. Davo even took on the planning and creation of a haunted house at St. Louis Life for community members to enjoy, with the funds going back to benefit St. Louis Life. About Us

Our organization was formed to provide business owners with a better understanding of the issues and benefits of hiring young adults with special needs. The employment rate for people with special needs is woefully low, estimated at 30% vs. 80% for the general work force.  We think that rate can be increased through more effective education for business owners.Our initial focus is to help young adults with intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD) living in Massachusetts to find part-time work.
